The big question asked in this session is “Is some music objectively better than other music or is it just a matter of opinion?”. Using a variety of engaging activities students will discuss and debate a wide range of other philosophical and ethical questions such as: What is the difference between music and noise? Why do we sometimes enjoy listening to music that evokes unpleasant emotions such as sadness or anger? Why do people have different tastes in music? Can music be objectively evaluated, or is it entirely subjective?
